Ne-Yo takes a stab at “One Shining Moment”

The announcement that One Shining Moment would feature a new voice sent a ton of college basketball fans running to the internet to get mad online (truly our greatest pasttime) at the idea that anyone other than Luther Vandross would be on the microphone for the 2016 NCAA Tournament musical montage on Monday night after a new champion is crowned.

Vandross’ version has been a part of the tournament’s championship broadcast since 2003, with the exception of one year, in 2010, when Jennifer Hudson got a crack at the song that plays under the best highlights from March Madness.

Well fear not, Luther fans, because his silkly smooth vocal tones will still be present on Monday night when fans in NRG Stadium look to the videoboard. The new artist teased by CBS and Turner won’t be taking over for Vandross but instead offering some assistance. Fans also got a heads up on who the new artist will be, with the announcement that three-time Grammy Award winner Ne-Yo will be providing a verse to the song.
